A Closer Look at the EU Organic Standard

Updated: Sep 3, 2025

The EU Organic certification is recognised as one of the most rigorous agricultural standards in the world. For Tea Story, achieving this mark of integrity is not a marketing decision but the very foundation of our quality promise: that every cup of Tea Story is both exceptional in taste and nourishing for the body.

The Principles Behind the Certification

Soil Stewardship: Tea gardens must undergo a conversion period of at least 36 months, ensuring the land is free from synthetic residues. Strict Input Control: The use of synthetic pesticides, fertilisers, herbicides, and genetically modified organisms is strictly prohibited. Only certified organic fertilisers and natural biological methods are permitted. Complete Traceability: From garden to finished leaf, every stage of production must be transparent and verifiable, safeguarding the integrity of the supply chain.

Our Commitment in Practice

In Yunnan, the tea gardens we partner with undergo unannounced inspections each year by Ecocert, an EU-approved certification body. These audits include soil and water analysis, meticulous checks of agricultural records, and direct field inspections. In the most recent review, our teas passed over 200 pesticide residue tests with results showing “Not Detected” across the board.

More Than a Standard

Certification provides every Tea Story customer with the assurance of independent verification. It is a seal that confirms our teas meet the most exacting organic standards, while reflecting our commitment to transparent, sustainable cultivation.

At Tea Story, we believe tea should be a lifelong companion to well-being. Whether enjoyed in London or across the world, our vision is simple: that those who drink Tea Story can look forward to a life of strength and vitality, well into their seventies and beyond.

With our sincerest regards,

The Tea Story Team
